Steps against the burden of Parkinson's Disease (StepuP)

Are you living with Parkinson’s Disease and want to improve your walking and balance?

Join the StepuP Study by UNSW and NeuRA. This 12-week treadmill training program — with or without virtual reality — aims to help people with Parkinson’s walk more confidently and stay steady on their feet. We also aim to understand physiological mechanisms of the treadmill training and long-term retention.

We are seeking volunteers who:
  • Have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease
  • Have mild to moderate symptoms
  • Can read, write, and understand English
  • Are medically fit to exercise under supervision
  • Can provide informed consent to participate
  • Do not have moderate to severe depression
  • Are not dependent on substances
  • Have not had deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery
What is involved in participating?

Train on a treadmill once a week at NeuRA for 12 weeks. Some participants may include virtual reality. You’ll also receive a walking exercise app to use afterward. We’ll assess your walking and balance at the start, end, and 12 weeks after training.
