The BUDDY Project – Building capacity for supported decision-making

BUilding capacity for supported decision-making for people living with Dementia and acquired DisabilitY (BUDDY)

The BUDDY Project is funded by the Australian Government’s Medical Research Futures Fund, and is working to equip aged care providers to meet the requirements for supported decision-making within the incoming Aged Care Act. This project is partnering with Brightwater Care Group, BaptistCare and the Older Persons Advocacy Network, along with researchers from a number of Australian Universities. The work will update policy guidance for aged care providers, and develop training resources in collaboration with people with lived experience of dementia and other ageing-related disabilities.

In the second year of the project, these training resources will be trialled with aged care staff in a stepped wedge cluster randomised controlled trial.
