The Jules Crisi Memorial Award for Bipolar Research

Jules Crisi

Jules suffered the devastating effects of bipolar disorder for at least nine years. He spent the whole of his twenties searching for the right medications to help manage his symptoms and stabilise his moods. Jules was a beautiful son, wonderful brother, brother-in-law, loving partner and beloved friend to many. His adventurous spirit, love for people and love of nature was infectious to family and friends here and overseas. He was the light of many lives and left this world far too soon.

The Jules Crisi Award has been established in loving memory of Jules and supports vital research undertaken at NeuRA. The winner must demonstrate how the additional funding will assist in the generation of new scientific knowledge and help to find more effective treatments for people living with bipolar disorder.

This year, the award has been given to Gerardo Mendez Victoriano. Gerardo's research is focused on exploring how neuroinflammation could be impacting the midbrains of individuals with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. In this brain region, dopamine is generated and associated with the pathophysiology of these disorders. Gerardo articulates this well in his three-minute thesis (3MT) presentation.

Please donate today to help us find better treatments for people living with bipolar disorder.
