Visiting Scientific Officer, NeuRAKey Research Areas
I have 15 years’ experience as a clinician academic since completing FRACP in Sleep and Respiratory medicine. Most of my time I am a staff specialist in a busy metropolitan teaching hospital, but dedicate one day per week to research in Sleep medicine. I am a leading senior clinician, with an emphasis on quality assurance and service improvement, including participation in multidisciplinary committees for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, Cystic Fibrosis, Hospital Acquired Aspiration Pneumonia Working Party and recently the Outbreak Management Committee.
My research to date uses novel imaging techniques to examine the biomechanics of the upper airway and in particular the pathophysiology of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), with a focus on mechanism of action and prediction of treatment success in mandibular advancement splint. My aim is to improve clinical outcomes for patients who cannot tolerate first line treatments. More recently, I have developed a project to investigate sleep disruption in Long COVID. I provide clinical input to develop the use of advanced imaging techniques to investigate mild cognitive impairment resulting from OSA.
