Engaging communities to prevent falls: A collaborative pre- and post-hospital support initiative

We need your help to develop fall prevention strategies for patients following hospitalisation.

NeuRA is conducting a study that aims to collaboratively improve patient outcomes by developing practical fall prevention strategies for older adults following planned surgery.

Who can participate:

  • People 60 years or older, and
  • Have been recently discharged from hospital or awaiting surgery, or
  • Have a lived experience of hospitalisation or surgery (within the last 6 months), and
  • Agree to participate in an interview that will be video, and audio recorded

What does participation involve?

Participating involves taking part in interviews and/or focus groups (conducted online using Teams or Zoom) with research staff that will take no longer than 60 minutes. In the interview we will ask you questions about your needs, preferences and priorities pre- and post-hospitalisation for planned surgery.

We will use the information you provide to develop practical and scalable fall prevention strategies for implementation in healthcare settings.

Participation in this study is voluntary, and you can withdraw at any time.

You will receive a $50 gift voucher as a reimbursement for your time.

This study has been approved by the St Vincents Hospital Human Research Ethics Committee 2025/ETH01111.

If you have any questions regarding the study, please send an email to email hidden; JavaScript is required or leave a phone message for the team on 9399 1802.
