Byron is the Crash Test Engineer and Laboratory Manager for the Transurban Road Safety Centre at NeuRA. He is responsible for the management, design, testing and operation of the Crash Test Sled and Laboratory. Byron collaborates with other talented researchers, component manufacturers and global automotive companies in experimental set-up and design, crash rig design and analysis appropriate in delivering research objectives to assess injury scenarios across a broad range of research areas. These include child restraint safety systems, driver and rear seat occupant safety, elderly driver and passenger safety, motorcycle design and rider safety.
Having a background in Mechatronic Engineering and Commerce, and with an appreciation of behavioural psychology, he’s drawn by human-centric innovation, to understand how transport safety systems and human behaviour are intertwined.
As a life-long enthusiast of all things automotive, transport and technology, Byron is passionate in his role, having an intricate understanding of vehicle technology and systems, excited knowing that the safety research conducted ultimately translates into real-world changes and implementation in driver and passenger safety.
