Compared to the general older Australian population, Indigenous older people show a twofold prevalence rate of falls and threefold prevalence rates of depression and dementia. As part of this research, we aim to identify determinants for the high prevalence of dementia in Indigenous Australians, and will now extend these findings by exploring determinants for the high prevalence of falls. This project will identify new areas to include in healthy ageing programs aimed at reducing falls and dementia in Indigenous Australians.
