Professor Georgina Hold, Director of Research at South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) and Professor of Gut Health at St George and Sutherland Clinical Campus, UNSW, is an internationally recognised expert on the role of the gut microbiota in health and disease, as well as providing strategic leadership and oversight of research activities. Professor Hold completed her PhD at the University of Glasgow on understanding microbial community dynamics and their influence on host health.

Her work has driven new standards in terms of microbiome clinical research and led to her being awarded a Fulbright Scholar in 2014, which was completed at Harvard School of Public Health. Professor Hold has secured over $10 million in research funding and published 140+ peer-reviewed articles. Her role involves setting the strategic direction for research, driving interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensuring alignment with institutional and societal priorities.
