Help transform lives through medical research

“If you can reduce people’s risk of hip fracture and deliver good care when it does happen, you can make a substantial difference to the outcome – especially for the more vulnerable members of our community.” - Professor Jacqueline Close AM
Hip fractures after a fall are common and can have a drastic impact on someone’s quality of life.
Many people will experience excruciating pain and be left with lasting disability after a hip fracture. Without the right information and care, it can impact someone’s independence and their chances of making a full recovery.
For people in high-risk groups including people with cognitive decline, it can result in a move to residential care – or even premature death.
But with your support, NeuRA's researchers can continue to investigate how to reduce the risk of hip fractures and ensure better care and effective recovery.
Please send a gift today so we can continue to transform lives through medical research.
You’ll be helping to advance the work of scientists like Professor Jacqueline Close, co-Chair of the Australian & New Zealand Hip Fracture Registry (ANZHFR) and Clinical Director of our Falls, Balance and Injury Research Centre (FBIRC).
The ANZHFR collects data from participating hospitals on their existing systems of care and recovery for hip fracture patients. At the FBIRC, our researchers are world leaders in understanding human balance, fall risk factors and strategies for the prevention of falls in older people. With more consistent care, people can recover faster and be less likely to have another fall.
“For the last 30 years in a clinical setting, I've looked after people who've broken their hip, and they are some of the most frail and vulnerable members of our society. But they are also people for whom if you deliver good care, you can make a substantial difference to their outcome.” - Professor Jacqueline Close AM
There are approximately 17,000 new hip fractures in Australia each year, and not everyone will receive the same level of care.
Please make a gift today so we can continue to conduct crucial medical research – and contribute to the delivery of better healthcare interventions and outcomes for everyone, regardless of their age or state of health.
